Our Story

About Our Parish

Founded in 1998 and consecrated in 2003, St. Albert the Great has grown into a vibrant, multicultural parish family in Calgary's Prestwick / McKenzie Towne community.

Our History

A Parish Built on Vision

St. Albert the Great Roman Catholic Parish was established on August 8, 1998, founded by Fr. Pat Cramer with the vision of becoming "a beacon of God's love in the community." Our church was consecrated on January 5, 2003, by Bishop Frederick Henry.

From our earliest days, the parish has sought to blend tradition and contemporary life — honouring the timeless truths of the Catholic faith while meeting the needs of a young, growing, and increasingly diverse community in southeast Calgary.

Today, St. Albert the Great is home to more than 40 ministries and social groups, five weekly Sunday Masses, and a school-age and young-family population that continues to shape the life of our parish.

Our Mission

Building Up God's Kingdom

We exist to share in the building up of God's Kingdom here on earth — inviting every member of our community to grow together in love of God and neighbour, through the Sacraments, the Word, and a life of service.

Our Patron Saint

Albertus Magnus

Our parish is named for St. Albert the Great (Albertus Magnus), a German Dominican friar, philosopher, scientist, and bishop of the 13th century. Renowned in his own lifetime for the breadth of his learning, he earned the titles "Doctor universalis" and "Doctor expertus."

He was canonized a saint and declared a Doctor of the Church, remembered for showing that faith and reason are not enemies but companions in the pursuit of truth — a spirit we strive to carry forward in our own parish community.
